UNICEF reached out to almost half of the world’s under-5 in need of vaccines

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reached out to almost half of the world’s children under the age of 5 years in 2016, the latest figures suggest. It procured 2.5 billion doses of vaccines to children in nearly 100 countries last year making it the largest buyer of vaccines for children in the world.

But an estimated 10 million children in India still miss out on full vaccinations every year. Weak health systems, poverty and social inequities also mean that a large number of children under five are still not reached with life-saving vaccines.
