Every second child in Uttar Pradesh misses routine vaccination, exposing them to often life-threatening or debilitating diseases. National Family Health Survey data shows that more than 50 percent of parents in the state knew nothing about routine immunisation - which refers to timely vaccination on a regular basis with vaccines considered important by the government, to reduce morbidity and mortality. Others did not know where to go, or did not consider it important enough, or stayed away due to fear. This situation is a big hurdle in the state’s goal to achieve 100 percent immunisation.
